2010 City of
Loveland
Spring Clean-Up

Kelsey McCarty
and Zack Shelley at the Forum's sign-in station at the
Thompson School District building in Loveland.
Unlike
last year, the weather cooperated nicely for us this
year. Although it was a bit on the cool side, the rain
held off until the event was completely over. As a
result, we recorded our largest turnout of volunteers and
we removed more trash this year than we have since the
event began 8 years ago. A total of 264 Volunteers,
counting 14 staff members from the City of Loveland & the
Forum participated in the event in which nearly 10 Tons of
trash was collected. A wide and varied assortment of trash
was removed from the following waterways:
-
Dry Creek, between 37th St.
and Horseshoe Lake;
-
The Lake Loveland Outlet Ditch that
runs between lake Loveland and the confluence of Dry Creek;
-
The Big Thompson River between Wilson
and Taft Avenues;
-
The Big Thompson River out at Sylvan
Dale Ranch;
-
The Chubbuck (Greeley/Loveland)
Irrigation Ditch, from Washington Ave. out to the Boyd
Lake Treatment Plant east of Denver Ave.;
-
The Dry Creek headwaters along Taft
Ave. R.O.W. located ½ mile north of 57th
St. & Taft Ave.;
-
The Jay Hawker Ponds (Forum sign-in
location);
-
Ryan Gulch between 14th St.
and the confluence of the Big Thompson River,
(Forum sign-in location) and;
-
The Big Barnes Ditch from 8th
St. to Lake Loveland.

job!
In addition to the familiar assortment of
cans, bottles and plastic items that always seem to end up
in our waterways the volunteers removed more than two
dozen shopping carts, several tires, one of which was believed to have come from a large tractor of some sort, a
water logged couch, a tent, construction materials, an
engine block, along with all sorts of other trash and
manmade materials.
The volunteer groups that participated in
this year’s event were: the Bill Reed Middle School; the
Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch; the Reflections for Youth; CSUnity Students from Delta, Delta, Delta and Gamma Phi
Beta Sororities; the Wal-Mart Distribution Center; the
Northern Colorado Covenant of the River; the Conrad Ball
Middle School National Honor Society; the Thomas Valley
High School Honor Society, and; the Vineyard Church in Loveland.
