Hydrology of Silver Lake

The water in Silver Lake is largely supplied by the Louden Ditch. The City of Loveland owns most of the water rights that supply the lake. One-half share of the ditch company water rights was obtained by the homeowners as part of the lake purchase; those water rights are used to help fill the lake. Silver Lake contains 440 acre feet when full. The evaporative losses are approximately 15 inches annually. The rainfall in this area is also about 15 inches annually. The surface acreage is 40+ acres. Currently, when full, the maximum depth is 18 feet. The center of the lake is latitude 40.41341 degrees N. and longitude 105.06529 degrees W. The lake volume is renewed one to one-and-a-half times annually.

Several stormwater drains empty into Silver Lake. During rain events, these drains can deliver water and various substances from the surrounding yards, parking lots and streets into the lake.
