Silver
Lake is a privately owned lake
within the city limits of Loveland,
Colorado. The lake was an agricultural reservoir used for farming
in the decades before northeast Loveland grew up around it.
The City of Loveland and the Silver Lake Homeowners
Association (SLHOA) worked with the Pulliam Trust for years to
manage the lake usage and water levels.
The homeowners association purchased the lake from the trust
in 1999, and still works with the city as a partner. The City of
Loveland uses some of the untreated water from the lake for
irrigation of Silver Lake Park and the Loveland Burial Park.
Lake usage is by
members and invited guests only. All member and board approved
expenses including costs of insurance and stocking of fish are borne
by the homeowners association. Power boats are restricted, except
for small electric or gas trolling motors, and lake traffic is
largely muscle powered, along with some wind craft and the
previously mentioned motors. Besides recreational boating, the lake
is used for fishing and swimming. In a region where lake levels may
fluctuate tremendously, the city and homeowners association have
been able to manage the lake level in such a way as to keep it quite
stable the last several years.

In October, 2005 the
Colorado Lake and
Reservoir Management Association granted the Silver Lake
Homeowners Association its 2005 Lake Management
Award for exceptional lake management work on Silver Lake.
